About us
We are affiliated to the Outpatient Clinic for Psychotherapy at Friedrich Schiller University Jena as a training outpatient clinic for the Psychological Psychotherapy training course and offer psychotherapeutic treatment for adults.
Our focus is on the behavioral treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, including phobias, panic and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, psychosomatic disorders, pain disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders and addictions are also treated where indicated following medical assessment.
Psychologists with a diploma or master's degree who are in the final stage of their state-recognized training in psychological psychotherapy work in our training outpatient clinic. The training therapists receive support from experienced supervisors from the Psychological Psychotherapy training program at the University of Jena. As a university institution, we place particular emphasis on the use of treatment methods whose effectiveness has been scientifically proven. Furthermore, thorough diagnostics and continuous monitoring of treatment quality are guaranteed.
Our outpatient clinic building is barrier-free. Parking is available in front of the building.

What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is the treatment of mental or psychologically (co-)caused physical illnesses. The aim is to change feelings, thoughts, attitudes or behavior. These changes can be achieved in a trusting relationship between therapist and patient, in which both develop a solution to the problems to be treated together. Changes in experience and behavior are prepared and encouraged through discussion or exercises. Psychotherapy is usually a long-term process.
Scientifically recognized psychotherapeutic methods include psychoanalytical psychotherapy, depth psychology-based psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. Our training outpatient clinic offers you behavioral therapy, a psychotherapeutic treatment method that directly addresses current problems and current life circumstances. The therapy goals are formulated jointly in a trusting relationship between patient and therapist. The patient's independence is encouraged. The focus of treatment is on actively overcoming problems and practicing new behaviors (e.g. anxiety-inducing situations are visited outside the outpatient clinic in anxiety treatment).
The role of the therapist is active: they help to understand the behavioral patterns acquired in the patient's life history and support the patient's steps towards changing their thoughts, feelings and actions. The results of psychological research, including medical findings, serve as a knowledge base for this. The frequency of the sessions is adapted to the individual problem situation.

What happens next?
After a waiting period, therapy is initially started in the form of probationary sessions (trial sessions). Only then, upon joint application by the insured person and therapist, will a decision be made on psychotherapy requiring approval. After approval of short-term therapy (12 or 24 sessions) or long-term therapy (60 sessions) by the health insurance company, regular, usually weekly therapy sessions take place. The appointments are arranged individually between the therapist and patient. A therapy session lasts 50 minutes and is recorded on video. The recordings are stored anonymously and are primarily used to follow up on the therapy sessions, plan further therapy and ensure quality. They are destroyed at the end of the therapy.

What costs will our patients have to pay?
The Outpatient Clinic for Psychotherapy is authorized by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Thuringia to bill statutory health insurance companies as a training outpatient clinic for the Psychological Psychotherapy further education course. This means that the costs of therapy are generally covered by statutory health insurance.
